Everyone has an embarrassing geek story to tell. this is Peter Hallam's

Ever Killed a Computer?

Every computer geek has a story about the most stupid thing they have ever done to a computer; often making you wonder at the intelligence level of those people. However, some of the stories, usually the most entertaining, boarder on idiocy. You may even consider Electric Shock lunacy but some computer geeks think nothing of it.

This is a story about a The Graphics Card Genie and a Dead Nerdbox. It is the stupidest and most bewildering computer experiences I’ve ever encountered; and it happened to me a few days ago.

Setting up a computer the other day, I was came across a cheap 9800GT I had laying around and had never put to use. It was actually the most powerful graphics card I had at the time and I was itching to get my dollars worth out of it.  Continue reading »

Cancelling Telstra Voicemail  August 31, 2011  Posted by at 9:05 pm Gratitude, Technology No Responses »

Cancelling Telstra Voicemail

Found out how to cancel Telstra’s involuntarily implemented voicemail on my phone. Thought I would nick it and post it here. Voice mail pisses me off too.

I hate voicemail. I never check it. Also, voicemail costs money. Like 5 cents every time you HAVE to check it. Man, I’m a tight ass and that’s a lot of money to me.

Best thing to do is cancel it.  Save your money up for another chocolate milk or something really important; like, Weetbix or Porridge! Continue reading »

Hay House Writers WorshopHay House Writers Workshop

Just got back from the Hay House Writers Workshop in Melbourne.

Hay House was started by author Louise Hay as a Self Help type publishing house more than 20 years ago. Lots of aspiring authors would love to be published by Hay House because of it’s reputation in the Self Help community.

Funniest thing about this conference, I got the impression that its far more viable an option to self publish than it is to be tied to a publisher.  You loose a lot of your rights as an author when you sign up with a publisher.  And, its just as much work. However, when you want to start publishing internationally, I guess you need the experience and backing of an established publisher. Continue reading »

Make Space in Your Life

Today I received an email from my Reiki Master Leisa Millar as part of her monthly newsletter.  She talked about making space in your life so that other things may have room to enter.  You may think that this, in our materialistic object focused society sounds silly.  Many people have adopted the accumulation mindset.  Accumulate wealth, accumulate possessions, accumulate power and so on and so forth.

The idea of creating space in your life is not a new one, in fact it is as old as history itself, but I feel that we as a western (Anglo Saxon) culture have lost sight of the true meaning of what this means.

This is what Leisa said word for word: … Continue reading »

Red Dot

Living in the moment and sticky red dots

Recently, whilst attending what is called a Reiki Share – a group of people gather and do Reiki on each other in turns – Lisa, my Reiki Master talked about living in the present moment in order to give Reiki properly. I have heard lots about living in the now by Eckert Tolle and the Power of Now, but it sort of escaped me being able to apply the principal to the Reiki share exercise.

However, why being in the present moment is so important during a Reiki share Continue reading »

Vote 1 - The Greens

Why Should I Vote Green in 2010?

This is why Peter Hallam is voting Green in the 21st August 2010 Australian Federal Election. You may like to consider this too. If you aren’t in Australia, or for that matter an Australian, do look into the policies you local Greens Party Candidate is promoting, and that of the Local Greens Party in your country. You may be pleasantly surprised. They are a real, stable, viable alternative to traditional conservative political parties.

Taken in its entirety from HERE, but it says it all.

  1. The Greens stand up for what’s right, not just what’s easy. Whether it’s protecting the environment, introducing universal dental care, opposing the war in Iraq or advocating for refugees to be treated humanely, the Greens are driven by values, not polls. Continue reading »

The Egoic Mind

The Ego – Unhelpful Thought Patterns

What is the Egoic Mind? The Egoic mind is the state of being identified with the ego. It is the state of mind in which the ego is in control of your thoughts and emotions. The ego, by nature of its method of action, seeks to defend and glorify the separate and separated self, working for separation from the whole, unhelpful autonomy, or dogged independence, and works to obscure the divine or higher self. In doing this the ego justifies itself as a separate entity over which control by the higher self is limited. Why is this the case? Continue reading »

How do you handle a crisis when it threatens to overwhelm you?

How to Handle a Crisis

Everyone encounters a crisis life.

Rarely in life is going smooth and we are free of stress. When was the last time your life was completely free of stress? More than likely there has always been something for you to worry about.

Most people, rather than cruising merrily along in life are in fact stumbling from one crisis to another. Some crisis are big, some may be small, but others may be totally unendurable and may break those people who have not been taught how to cope with them. Many other people endure small crises one after the other, thinking they know how to handle each one, but they all end up piling up and up, ultimately creating some form of significant disruption in our Continue reading »

Make the world a better place

How to make the world a better place

In order to make the world a better place, and contribute to global consciousness (Akashic records) it is important to behave in a certain manner. It isn’t hard to behave in this certain manner, in fact many of the worlds great religions and doctrines have preached such behaviour for thousands of years, but in contemporary society, the focus on the self as the primary importance in an individuals life has debased many of the tenements required for behaving Continue reading »

Unhelpful Thinking

What is Unhelpful Thinking?

Unhelpful thinking is any thinking that does not contribute to your current situation in a positive context.
Modern life is full of demanding people, places and situations. Unhelpful thinking are the thoughts, emotions or feelings that created in response to those demands, and which do not contribute positively to you or your current situation. Focusing on a candle will assist you to ignore persistent thoughts

How To Switch Off The Mind

What happens to ‘peace of mind’ when you just can’t seem to ‘switch off’ the mind?

It is well known to most people that a person cannot conquer the mind by fighting against. Rather, it is easier to overcome the minds activities by becoming indifferent to it. In this technique a person doesn’t try to suppress the flow of thoughts or memories that keep flowing in to their mind, instead, let them flow in and appear but do not respond to them. Imagine thoughts as a film in front of your eyes, slowly passing you by scene by scene. Just acknowledge these thoughts as you would whilst mindlessly watching a film in the cinema. Escape Your Mind

relief from the mind can be as simple as focusing on the now

Be Calm - Focus on the Current Moment

Why you should escape your mind?

Most people in this world think they are unhappy. This is mainly because they live in their minds, obsessed with events and situations in their past, or focusing on what has not yet come to pass from the future. They focus on the past or fearfully try to guess their future and thus end up manifesting more of the things they don’t like and dwell upon.

Further, when you live in your mind, you grow your ego. The ego can only exist because it was created by the mind, so the more present you are in the current moment, the more you diminish the control your ego has over your life. Continue reading »
